Measure the seat, then choose the layer
“Three-seater” describes how you use a sofa, not its exact dimensions. Start with a tape measure, a sheet of paper and the shape of your own sofa. Write every measurement in inches. If you are comparing a metric choice, divide centimeters by 2.54.
1. Sketch the outline
Note whether your sofa has straight arms, rounded arms, a chaise, loose back cushions or separate sections. For a sectional, sketch and measure each section individually. A single rectangular cover may not follow an L shape without folds.
2. Record the important distances
- Overall width: measure from the outside of one arm to the outside of the other for a fitted-cover length range.
- Seat width: measure the sitting area between the arms. For a single seat panel, measure the particular cushion or section.
- Seat depth: measure from the front edge to the point where the seat meets the back.
- Back height: measure from the seat up over the back. If you want a draped panel to extend behind the sofa, include that drop.
- Arm coverage: measure up and over each arm if the panel will cover them.
3. Match the cover type
Fitted covers: compare overall sofa length with the stated range. Length alone does not guarantee a match; check arm shape and back height against the photographs. A stated 90–140 cm range is about 35.4–55.1 in of sofa length, not a flat piece measuring 90 × 140 cm.
Draped panels: the listed dimensions are the rectangle of fabric. Add up the path the fabric must travel, including any back drop, arm coverage and tuck. For example, a 70.9 × 118.1 in panel is approximately 180 × 300 cm. Decide which side will run along your sofa before ordering.
Seat layers: compare seat width and depth with the flat panel. Add overhang only if you want it. One panel covers one measured area; several sections can require multiple pieces.
4. Leave a little room for the textile
A textile bends around contours and may need extra length for tucking. Do not order right at the limit if your plan depends on a precise drop. Where a source measurement is approximate, we say so in the product information.
5. Check the contents
A cover is not a sofa, and one cover panel is not a whole set. Check whether a cushion includes filling or is a cover only. Photographing your tape measurements can make a pre-order question easier to explain.
